I’ve never kept a blog before, so I guess I’ll start by
saying:
Hello internet!
My name is Freedom. I’m a beagle! I was raised as a
laboratory animal, kept in a small steel cage and used to test experimental
drugs, cosmetics and other products. But then the Beagle Freedom Project came
into my life and changed it forever! With the research lab’s consent, I and my
fellow research dogs were released into the BFP’s custody. We had lived in
cages our entire lives and had no experience with life in a home, children or
other animals- we weren’t even house trained! The amazing people at the BFP
stuck with us, though, and with their help we are now living happy, normal
lives with loving adoptive families. Well, except for me- I loved the people at
the Project too much to leave, so now I live at BFP headquarters.
Beagles like me are the most popular breed of laboratory
test dogs because of our docile, friendly and trusting nature. Like most
research beagles, I was sold directly to the lab from a commercial breeder, who
bred me specifically for that purpose. Until I was rescued, I’d never walked on
grass or even seen the sun before!
I decided to start this blog to help my friends at the
Beagle Freedom Project raise awareness for the plight of laboratory test
animals. I’ll also be giving you guys an inside look at what goes on at BFP, as
well as keeping you up to date on all the latest Beagle Freedom news! I look
forward to getting to know all you wonderful people, and I hope this blog will
help you learn more about test animals and what you can do to help them.
Until next time!
-Freedom
Freedom,
ReplyDeleteNice blog! I am sorry for your suffering. I did not know there were commercial breeders who sold Beagles directly to labs. I feel very sad. I have two Beagles, one is a puppy and the other is 5 yrs. old. I couldn't imagine giving them up for animal testing. I love them so much and they are so loving. Glad you have a life of your own now Freedom!! Enjoy it!! (((Hugs)))
Hi Freedom! my son is a 4 year old beagle, his name is Alku. I can not bear to image if he were in your place. I´m so sorry you had to pass through that horrible experience. Please, continue writing about you and your beagle friends, so more people can get to know about this sad reality and can help us to stop it. Have a wonderful life!!

Wonderful, Freedom! I agree and akin to Patricia. I cannot bear to look into my Princess Pumpkin's eyes and imagine the horrors you were exposed to. But you know, I have to. I have to stand up for those who do not have human language. My 10 yr old Sara is making sure I do so! Best to you, doll, and keep the blogs coming! <3
ReplyDeleteD. Mirza: Request For Interviews
ReplyDeleteHi Beagle Rescuers...I am a University of Toronto graduate researcher who is compiling a detailed description of the “open rescue” of animals from university laboratories for a Masters research project, focusing on how empathic stories of animal liberation can lead to anti-oppression in school settings. .
I would like to interview participants who have undertaken an “open rescue” of animal(s), with the intention of developing a script of these narrative interviews (to be staged at a later date). Would you know of any open rescuers who would like to be interviewed? I can conduct an email /phone interview or respond in person if they live in Toronto, Ontario. (My university ethics review board requires that participants sign a consent form before I can interview them and that their identities remain anonymous).
I am a vegan and an active member of the University of Toronto Animals Rights Club (see below) who feels a responsibility to find (and promote) empathetic alternatives to animal testing, especially at the University of Toronto, where 90,000 animals a year are used in animal experimentation. I look forward to your response...my email is davismirza@gmail.com & my home phone is 416-465-0095.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
